The State of the Art of Acupuncture in Integrative Medicine

http://www.icmart2011.org

Dear Colleagues,

It is my privilege to invite you to attend the ICMART 2011 Congress in The International City of Peace and Justice, The Hague. What a wonderful destination with so much history.

The theme, "The State of the Art of Acupuncture in Integrative Medicine" suggests an ambitious program, and rightly so for the NAAV has assembled an impressive cast of speakers to cover a range of diverse topics. Peruse the program and you will find there is something for everyone, whether you are an expert, an accomplished practitioner or a neophyte acupuncturist at the beginning of your career. Cutting edge research will be presented to further your understanding of acupuncture. Clinicians will benefit from the practice orientated sessions, such as acupuncture in oncology and acupuncture treatment of anxiety, and many others.

The program is extensive, with four concurrent streams running on all days of the conference. The difficulty will be deciding which sessions not to attend.

Look forward to meeting you at the Congress

Chin Chan

President ICMART

Dear colleagues,

We are looking forward to welcome you to the Netherlands and so does the Australian ICMART-president. With a new general secretary after 25 years, there will likely be some alterations to the programme.

With her network in the European parliament she would like to introduce a forum of the Cambrella, that is the umbrella of CAM, Complementary Alternative Medicine, that has succeeded in getting the politicians interested in CAM-research. Nowadays we need the political acceptation and recognition of acupuncture so as to realize the wish of so many patients to be treated with acupuncture and be fully reimbursed by their health insurance.

For the integration of acupuncture in school medicine the chairman of the scientific committee has introduced round table conferences around one topic. He also likes to get everybody on the move through the digital construction of our congress site.

It has already resulted in letters from famous lecturers around the world, all willing to contribute to our ICMART symposium. But before diving into your interesting presentations of practice-based and evidence-based research, we would like to offer you a splendid opportunity to get rid of the winter blues and of the jetlag. One day before Congress begins, that is on Thursday the 12th of May, there will be the touristic tour to the wellknown 65 acres of magic carpet of millions of Tulip-bulbs in the flower park “Keukenhof”, just behind the Dunes.

We invite you to visit the congress website for an interesting social programme for the many accompanying persons, who can attend our welcome reception without fee. We hope to embrace you all in the renewed, enlarged China Town of the municipality of The Hague.

Mrs. Chun Lee Oei-Tan, MD, PhD President of the NAAV (Nederlandse Artsen Acupunctuur Vereniging)

Greeting Address
Walburg Maric-Oehler MD

Medical Acupuncture has made great strides in the last decades. By energizing and challenging the traditions of conventional Western medicine, Medical Acupuncture has been in the forefront of establishing the new model of integrative medicine.

ICMART, as the premier international spokes-organization for Medical Acupuncture worldwide, has played a special role in this process. Over many years the ICMART congresses have created a platform of dialogue and exchange in various important areas, including education, clinical practice and research.

Many of you who have taken part in, and have played an active role in these congresses, have witnessed the evolutionary development of Medical Acupuncture. You have been active participants in the birth of international integrative medicine. Since the founding of ICMART in 1983, more and more Medical Acupuncture societies and their thousands of members have participated in this work. We are convinced that, with the help of many old and new friends, we can continue to encourage this historic paradigm shift in medicine.

The organizers of this congress, in cooperation with the ICMART board and the scientific committee, are preparing an interesting and significant program of clinical and scientific topics. Many special sessions and workshops will be part of the congress. They will be critical in considering the aims and goals of Medical Acupuncture in light of the current health policy needs of many countries.

On behalf of the ICMART board and the congress organizers I kindly invite you to the ICMART Congress 2011 ‘State of the Art of Acupuncture in Integrative Medicine’ in The Hague / Den Haag. Our Dutch hosts will welcome you to an exciting environment with countless flourishing tulips as a special, typically Dutch, gift. They will do everything to welcome you and make sure that you are comfortable during your visit to the conference.

Looking forward to welcome you in The Hague.

Your ICMART General Secretary
Walburg Mariæ-Oehler
